Gene Gaudette is an independent producer of new and restored historical recordings and the founder of Urlicht AudioVisual, a label and production house devoted to distinctive classical and contemporary music. His career spans more than four decades and includes work in session and broadcast production, audio mastering, A&R, product development, music marketing, artistic advising, journalism, and digital-media development.

A longtime student of both historical and postwar musical repertoire, he worked for nearly a decade with Bertelsmann Music Group—then the owner of the RCA, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, and Eurodisc catalogues—where he developed major reissue, compilation, and catalogue projects. He later served as a consultant to independent labels and distributors, experiences that led to the founding of Urlicht AudioVisual in 2010.

In recent decades, he has produced new recordings for his own label and other independent imprints by artists including Ethan Iverson, Pascal Rogé, Miranda Cuckson, Carol McGonnell, Elmira Darvarova, Elisha Abas, Beth Levin, David Amram, Gary Karr, Carolyn Enger, and the New York Piano Quartet. His other projects have explored a wide range of repertoire, from new music and world-premiere recordings to historically significant performances transferred from 78s, acetate discs, and other archival media. Urlicht’s catalogue is particularly recognized for bringing neglected repertoire and demanding contemporary works to listeners in carefully produced editions. Over the years, his credits have encompassed approximately 400 releases involving classical recording, audio restoration, high-resolution mastering, and innovative surround and immersive formats.

He has lectured on recording history and the impact of technology on the music industry at the Smithsonian Institution, Musikwochen Gustav Mahler Toblach, Classical:NEXT, the University of Connecticut, and the Yale Club. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing and serves on the Argento New Music Project's Board of Directors.
